Custom Antibody FAQs

Fortis is your trusted partner for custom antibody production. We offer custom monoclonal antibody and polyclonal antibody production, and tailor our processes to meet your individual requirements.

Custom Monoclonal Antibodies

  • Fortis has 100% control over the antibody process with full vertical integration from antigen generation through to final product. We are transparent about our production process and build milestones into our production process. Customers have direct access to our antibody experts for any questions about project progress. See what our customers have been saying about us.

  • We deliver diverse sets of recombinant rabbit monoclonal antibodies using a robust, proven, single B cell approach. This platform leverages both the power of the rabbit immune system to generate high affinity antibodies against a broad range of targets and the best-in-class reproducibility of recombinant monoclonal antibodies.

  • We have successfully produced monoclonal antibodies against many different protein, peptide, and hapten (small molecule) immunogens. Protein projects have included the generation of highly specific anti-idiotype monoclonal antibodies. We also specialize in making monoclonal antibodies against post-translational modifications such as phosphorylation, acetylation, methylation, etc.

  • Yes! We use a proprietary algorithm to identify peptide sequences with a high likelihood of yielding desirable monoclonal antibodies and then format the sequences to achieve appropriate presentation of the target epitopes. All peptides are made and QC’d in-house.

  • We have protein engineering, expression, and purification capabilities but please contact us for further discussion with an antibody expert to ensure project success.

  • At Fortis, one of our greatest strengths is working with our clients to configure our established workflows and deliverables according to each client’s specific needs. Customizing for client success means we cannot offer cookie-cutter pricing like some other providers. Please contact us to discuss the details of your project.

  • This varies depending on the particulars of the project including antigen production timeline, extent and type of screening, etc. With immunogen in hand, we can deliver recombinant clone sets for your evaluation in around 4 months. Throughout the project, our antibody experts will be available and in touch with project and timeline updates.

  • In-depth project discussions allow us to understand your project design goals, enabling our scientific experts to design antigens and screens that will drive the generation and identification of clones with the potential to perform in the way you need them to. Diverse sets of high potential recombinant clones are then provided to you to test in your lab. We don’t suggest clones that might work based on our data: you pick clones you know work based on yours.

  • Our custom monoclonal antibody projects are designed to provide the purified material you need to validate one or multiple clones in your application(s). Whether you need 50 mg or 5 g, a custom formulation or conjugation, an engineered variant, or even a monoclonal antibody cocktail, your ongoing supply needs are something we look forward to supporting.

Custom Polyclonal Antibodies

  • Fortis has 100% control over our antibody production process. We are vertically integrated in the production process from peptide antigen generation to final product deliverable. We are transparent about our production process. Our customers have direct access to our antibody experts for any questions throughout the project’s progress.

  • The antigen can be sent as gel slices, lyophilized, or in liquid form. We prefer to keep the gel slices and liquid-form antigen in either TBS or PBS but other buffers can be reviewed and approved at your request.

  • We typically request that customers sent ~2 mg of antigen at a concentration of 0.2 mg/mL or greater.

  • Yes! We offer peptide design as part of our custom polyclonal antibody service to ensure project success.

  • We do not offer protein generation for the custom polyclonal antibody service.

  • There are price variations between custom polyclonal antibody service projects. Therefore, we offer different packages that tailor to the needs of each customer. Please contact us with pricing questions.

  • Our antibody experts will work with you and your personalized custom polyclonal antibody package. The general timeline for custom polyclonal antibody generation is between 3 to 6 months, depending on the selected package.

  • We cannot guarantee the antibody will work for its intended application. We will test the final deliverable by ELISA to determine reactivity to the immunogen. We offer screening in WB or IHC, if desired, for an additional fee.
