CD11c is the common name for the integrin alpha X chain protein. Integrins are heterodimeric integral membrane proteins composed of an alpha chain and a beta chain. Integrin alpha-X/beta-2 is a receptor for fibrinogen and mediates cell-cell interaction during inflammatory responses. It is especially important in monocyte adhesion and chemotaxis.
