Eukaryotic initiation factor 4 gamma 3 (eIF4G3) is one of 2 eIF4G proteins found in human (eIF4G1 and eIF4G3). eIF4G is a subunit of the eIF4F heterotrimeric complex composed of eIF4A, eIF4E, and eIF4G. eIF4F plays a role in recruiting the ribosome to the 5’-end of capped mRNAs during protein synthesis. In the eIF4F complex, eIF4G functions as a scaffold to bridge the cap-binding subunit, eIF4E, with the RNA helicase, eIF4A.
