Zinc-finger protein 24 (ZNF24) is a transcription factor required for myelination of differentiated oligodendrocytes and for the conversion of oligodendrocytes from the premyelinating to the myelinating state. In the developing central nervous system (CNS), ZNF24 is involved in the maintenance in the progenitor stage by promoting the cell cycle. ZNF24 has transcription repressor activity in vitro.[taken from the Universal Protein Resource (UniProt) www.uniprot.org/uniprot/ P17028].
