FLRF/RNF41 is also known as the E3 ubiquitin-protein ligase NRDP1. FLRF/RNF41 is responsible for the ubiquitination and proteasomal degradation of the EGF (epidermal growth factor) receptor family member, ErbB3/HER3. The overexpression of FLRF/RNF41 results in a decrease of ErbB3 and inhibition of breast cancer cell growth while decreased levels of FLRF/RNF41 are inversely correlated with ErbB3 levels in primary human breast cancer tissue. FLRF/RNF41 has also been shown to catalyze the degradation of BRUCE/apollon, an inhibitor of apoptosis protein (IAP).
