QKI exist as multiple isoforms with distinct functions that regulate pre-mRNA splicing and the stability of proteins central to oligodendrocyte differentiation. QKI has been identified as a candidate gene in schizophrenia. QKI is also known as protein quaking, hqkI, Hqk, HKQ, QK, QK3, and DKFZp586I0923.
