PACT was identified as an activator of PKR, a latent protein kinase that mediates the antiviral actions of interferon. PACT contains 3 double-stranded RNA-binding domains (DRBMs) indicating a role in RNA processing. PACT has been shown to interact with another DRBM-containing protein, TRBP (TAR RNA binding protein), and form a triple complex with Dicer to facilitate the production of siRNA.
