Interleukin 2 (IL-2) is a cytokine and ligand for the heterotrimeric IL-2 receptor. IL-2 is primarily produced by recently activated T-cells, and its main function is to promote immune responses by stimulating clonal expansion of recently antigen-activated T-cells.
