FGR is a member of the Src-family of tyrosine kinases that include at least eight members Lyn, c-Src, c-Yes, Fyn, c-Fgr, Hck, Lck, and Blk. The Src-family tyrosine kinases are nonreceptor kinases localized at the cytoplasmic face of the plasma membrane that mediate cellular signals from a variety of surface receptors. Signaling via Src-related kinases regulates proliferation, differentiation, gene expression, cytoskeletal organization, and metabolism. FGR localizes to plasma membrane ruffles and negatively regulates cell migration and adhesion mediated by beta-2 integrin signals. Alternate names for FGR include SRC2, c-src2, p55c-fgr, and Gardner-Rasheed feline sarcoma viral (c-fgr) oncogene homolog.
