DGCR8 Antibody

DiGeorge syndrome critical region 8 (DGCR8) is a component of the microprocessor complex that acts as a RNA- and heme-binding protein and is involved in the initial step of microRNA (miRNA) biogenesis. DGCR8 functions as a molecular anchor necessary for the recognition of pri-miRNA at dsRNA-ssRNA junctions. It directs RNASEN/DROSHA to cleave 11 bp away from the junction to release hairpin-shaped pre-miRNAs that are subsequently cut by the cytoplasmic DICER to generate mature miRNAs. Alternative names for DGCR8 include gy1, DGCRK6 and C22orf12. [taken from the Universal Protein Resource (UniProt) www.uniprot.org/uniprot/Q8WYQ5]
