AktS1/PRAS40 interacts with raptor as a component of the mammalian target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). One study suggests that AktS1/PRAS40 may function to regulate mTORC1 kinase activity by inhibiting substrate binding. Another study suggests that AktS1/PRAS40 functions downstream of mTORC1 and upstream from its effectors S6K1, and 4E-BP1. Alternate names for AktS1/PRAS40 include proline-rich AKT1 substrate 1, 40 kDa proline-rich AKT1 substrate, AKT1S1, lobe, and MGC2865.
